Chapter Twelve

“WE’D ABANDON OUR PACK for you...”

No! Archer couldn’t allow them to do that. You didn’t choose to become a lone wolf to make some grand romantic gesture. It was often not a choice at all and never one made easily. Because why would any wolf chose to live on the fringes of the wolf community, to be treated like a pariah even by your own family. There was a reason for it being used as a punishment—even if those reasons weren’t always just—it never did well for a wolf to be separated from their pack, and places like Silverdale were rare. Not all cities were eager to have lone wolves within their boundaries and give them a place to belong without first joining another pack. And as Roderick mentioned, things were changing in Silverdale too. The packs were closing ranks, turning their backs on the lone wolves they’d once welcomed with open arms and there was nothing the coven could do to stop it.

He couldn’t let the twins suffer all that because of him. Suffer it worse as he couldn’t imagine the Silver Ridge pack would take kindly to, two of their top warriors abandoning it over a lone wolf—a broken wolf whose life had only been saved by his standing, his families high rank within the Miller Ridge pack. Yet being kicked out because he no longer fitted with the packs idea of what a wolf should be, was better than the fate suffered by others in the pack. He could have been incarcerated in prisons that no one outside of the pack knew about—horrific, brutal places that forced its inhabitants to remain in wolf form until no remnants of their former selves remained.

Still, he wouldn’t let the twins become lone wolves.

But Archer was also selfish. Greedy. He wanted to be with them. Wanted to learn if their claim he was fated to them was true—ignoring the small voice in his head whispering louder that it was. He wanted to create a memory of the twins that he could cherish on those lonely nights in a city that was far from Silverdale. Needed to satisfy an urge, an insistent desire that had plagued his dreams since he’d witnessed them together.

Archer lifted his hand and carefully caressed Roderick’s cheek. Brushed away the tears that had fallen with his attempt to push them away. Turned his head to find Broderick standing to the side watching them with a pained hopeful expression. He reached for him too, wincing as his fingers drifted over the bruises, he’d left on the wolfs neck. Archer caressed Broderick’s stubbled jaw and rested his thumb on the wolf’s plump lips, breath hitching as they parted, and Broderick flicked his tongue over the tip before sucking it into his mouth.

He groaned, body shuddering as Roderick stepped in closer pressing his hard body against him until Archer couldn’t deny the arousal surging through him. Stared into the heated pools of Broderick’s eyes and tilted his neck as Roderick’s teeth scraped down his throat and over his collar bone.
